Tara Sharma was born on 11 January 1977. Her father's name is Pratap Sharma. Her mother Susan is of British origin. Pratap Sharma is a renowned author and actor. She graduated from the London School of Economics. She entered the show biz world with ad films and she won the heart of millions with the famous Liril Ad.

Tara's debut film in Bollywood was Om Jai Jagdish (2002), which was the directorial debut of Anupam Kher. She starred opposite Abhishek Bachchan, along with Waheeda Rahman, Fardeen Khan, Mahima Chaudhry, Urmila Matondkar and Anil Kapoor. The film failed at the box office. Then she acted in The Bill, a famous series on British Police. Next, she did Saaya (2003) directed by Anurag Basu starring opposite John Abraham.

Tara's next film was Masti (2004), a comedy with three men, Vivek Oberoi, Aaftab Shivdasani, Ritesh Deshmukh trying to cheat on their wives Amrita Rao, Tara Sharma, Genelia D'Souza. The film was successful but Tara did not get much recognition, primarily because of the huge star cast.

Her next film was a thriller Bardaasht with Bobby Deol, Ritesh Deshmukh and Rahul Dev. As an actress her greatest achievement was her performance in the National Award winning film Page 3 directed by Madhur Bhandarkar.

She was praised by the critics of the film industry for the role of Gayetri Sachdeva. She has acted in few other movies like Mr. Prime Minister (2005), Aksar (2006), Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006) and Maharathi (2008). Dulha Mil Gaya is one of her upcoming films.

Tara Sharma has also modelled in a successful television and print advertising campaign for Garnier.

Tara Sharma’s is married to ad film producer, Roopak Saluja (an INSEAD alumnus).
